Battelle, Chelmsford

Client: Battelle

Who: Battelle is the largest independent non-profit applied science and technology organization in the world. 

Commission: Survey of existing HVAC systems of Laboratory areas following reports of poor installation and workmanship during the original fit out. Brontide were instructed to complete a non-intrusive survey and produce design drawings and specification package of remedial works. Site visits followed to review the Contractors works against the design information.

Creaksea Place, Burnham-on-Sea

Client: Creaksea Place

Who: Country Manor House Wedding Venue. Dating back to 1569, the house has seen many a custodian, and since the 1940’s, has been in the hands of the Bertorelli family. 

Building Floor Area: 950m² approx. The building consists of a Ground and First Floors (West and South Wing) including Courtyard and separate Stable Block. 

Project Manager: The Morton Partnership

Commission: Brontide Consulting were commissioned to survey and review the existing Mechanical & Electrical installations within the building including future services requirements in conjunction with the future restoration works. In particular, the report identifies suitable options to provide future heating and hot water to the premise during the winter period to host wedding ceremonies / receptions and other functions.

Dutch Barn, Chelmsford

Client: Strutt & Parker / Smith Construction

Who: A very unique building that provides a striking first impression to its visitors. The structure has been converted with a modern and spacious feel, with the large windows providing far stretching countryside views.

Project Manager: Smith Construction

Commission: Low Carbon Consultants offering Mechanical and Electrical design advise against the latest building regulations including Approved Document L2A: Conservation of fuel and power which supports the energy efficiency requirements of the Building Regulations.

The Ferry Boat Inn, North Fambridge

Client: The Ferry Boat Inn

Who: Grade II Listed 16th century building, the Ferry Boat Inn offers a choice of characterful bars, a spacious new dining area, beautifully designed and self-contained B&B accommodation.

Architect: Grow Design Studio

Commission: Mechanical and Electrical design drawings and specification including Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery, Air Source Heat Pump & LED Lighting. Low Carbon Consultants offering Mechanical and Electrical design advise against the latest building regulations including Approved Document L2A: Conservation of fuel and power which supports the energy efficiency requirements of the Building Regulations. Issue of SBEM BRUKL Report and Energy Performance Certificate.

Finchingfield Guildhall, Essex

Client: Finchingfield Guildhall Trust

Architect: Kay Pilsbury Archhitect

Who: The Guildhall was built around 1470 by the Guild of the Holy Trinity. The Building fell into disrepair and following the second world war attempts were made to restore the site. Specialist conservation designers and craftsmen undertook works to this Grade I Listed Building.

Awards and Nominations

The Guildhall won two prestigious awards at RIBA East of England event. One was for Regional architecture and the other was for a conservation project.

The Guildhall also won the RICS East of England Building Conservation award 2014

The Grand Pavilion, Hylands House, Chelmsford

Client: Chelmsford City Council

Who: The largest and most flexible space at Hylands Estate is the modern Grand Pavilion. It provides the perfect setting for a large variety of events and functions. As a business venue this impressive space is perfect to host seminars, meetings, large shows and exhibitions. It was completed in 2014 with a stunning bar, PA sound system and atmospheric mood lighting.

Commission: Full design of M&E Services and construction monitoring of a marquee multi function venue.

Osea Island, Essex

Client: Portbello Trust

Architect: Plater Claiborne

Who: Osea, a private island frequented by celebrities and the fashion and music industry elite, sits across almost 400 acres of idyllic countryside and four miles of beach. A selection of charming cottages, apartments and grand houses are available for holidays and family get-togethers, although the entire Island can also be hired for private events, something that has made it a popular celebrity getaway.

Commission: Providing Mechanical and Electrical designs services for refurbishment of the East Village and construction of new West Village. Undertake a feasibility study of the existing primary services infra-structure currently serving the Island to ascertain its capacity and suitability for retaining to serve the current and future development projects.

Premier Inn, St Albans

Client: Rockspring

Architect: Stride Treglown

Who: 123 bed hotel and retail units on this site, within a conservation area and including a locally listed building was very challenging. New retail units were created on the busy St Peter Street frontage while the hotel is entered from Adelaide Street where an extensively glazed frontage allows views to and from the restaurant, while on the upper floors the bedrooms are wrapped round a four sided courtyard.

Commission: Full detailed design of M&E services of 123 Bedroom Hotel & Restaurant. 3No. Retail full design duties. The hotel has been designed to be energy and water efficient in order to achieve a BREEAM rating of Very Good.
